Mahdavis — Followers of Imam Mahdi (AS)

All praise belongs to Allah (SWT), and peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

We are Mahdavi Muslims and identify with the Sunni tradition of Islam. Along with the fundamental beliefs and practices of Islam, we believe that the Promised Mahdi has already appeared in the person of Hazrat Syed Muhammad Jaunpuri (AS).

Hazrat Syed Muhammad (AS) was born in Jaunpur, India, in 847 Hijri and passed away in Farah, Afghanistan, in 910 Hijri. Mahdavi tradition holds that he descended through Imam Hussain (RA) from the family of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

He did not bring a new religion or claim prophethood. Rather, he declared himself the Promised Mahdi and emphasized adherence to the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He proclaimed himself as the Promised Mahdi on three different occasions: First at Mecca in 901 H, then at Ahmadabad (India) in 903 H, and for the third time at Badli (India) in 905 H.

The Mahdavi Doctrine

An important part of Mahdavi spiritual life is expressed through the Eight Faraiz-e-Vilayath:

  1. Tark-e-Duniya — Renunciation of worldly attachment

A Life Centered on Allah

The teachings attributed to Imam Mahdi (AS) repeatedly emphasize Zikrullah — remembrance of Allah—and freedom from attachments that lead the heart away from Him. Remembrance, spiritual discipline, trust in Allah, righteous companionship, and devotion to the Qur’an and Sunnah as central elements of Mahdavi religious life.

Our Islamic Foundation

Mahdavis affirm the fundamental pillars and articles of Islamic faith while following the teachings attributed to Imam Mahdi (AS). The Mahdavi path is therefore presented not as a separate religion, but as a life of devotion to Allah grounded in the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

LINEAGE OF IMAM MAHDI (AS)

The below lineage shows that Hazrat Syed Muhammad Jaunpuri Mahdi Mau'ood (AS), is from the progeny of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as indicated by the Prophet (PBUH) himself in one of his Ahadith.

The Hadith states that: 'The Prophet (PBUH) said, “how would my folks (Ummah) be perished when I am at its beginning; Jesus, the son of Mary, is at its end; and the Mahdi, from my progeny, is in the middle.”’ (Musnad of Imam Ahmed, and Kanz-ul-Ummal).
